Mexican auto parts exports hit record high in first quarter

Mexico's "The Financier" reported on June 7 that in the first quarter of this year, Mexico's auto parts exports hit a new record, reaching US$6.291 billion, a year-on-year increase of 9.7%. The Mexican industry believes that this is mainly due to the development of important automobile manufacturing markets such as the United States and Canada. At the same time, the export value of Mexico's other auto industry sectors in the first quarter was 20.221 billion US dollars, a year-on-year decrease of 2.8%.

According to the statistics of the Mexican Automobile Industry Association (AMIA), in May 2016, Mexico's new car sales were 121,587, a year-on-year increase of 19.2%; in May, the car production was 279,508, a year-on-year decrease of 3.1%; in May, the car export was 226,240, a year-on-year decrease of 6.0%.


From January to May, Mexico's new car sales were 587,320 units, a year-on-year increase of 16.8%; from January to May, car production was 1,354,848 units, a year-on-year decrease of 4.6%; from January to May, a total of 1,080,358 units were exported, a year-on-year decrease of 7.1%.


By region: 820,460 units were exported to the United States, a year-on-year increase of 0.3%, accounting for 75.9% of the total export volume, 70,862 units were exported to other Latin American countries, a year-on-year decrease of 30.4%, accounting for 6.6% of the total export volume, and 11,175 units were exported to Asian countries , down 68.6% year-on-year, accounting for 1.0% of total exports.


By country: The top ten export destinations for Mexican cars are the United States, Canada, Germany, Colombia, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, China, Puerto Rico and Peru. Among them, 4,718 vehicles were exported to China, a year-on-year decrease of 73%, accounting for 0.4% of the total export volume.
