Borgwarner, a global leader in providing innovative and sustainable mobility solutions, has signed a contract with a North American automaker to supply its 400V SW130 (S-winding) motors for a range of hybrid full-size trucks and SUVs. This contract will further expand BorgWarner's global market influence in high-voltage, low-power S-winding motor technology and is expected to commence mass production in the second quarter of 2028.
Dr. Stefan Demmerle, President and General Manager of BorgWarner Power Drive Systems, said: "BorgWarner works closely with this automaker to provide it with S-winding motor solutions for specific application requirements." The success of this project demonstrates the technical capabilities of our engineering team in aspects ranging from compact design to manufacturing implementation. We look forward to further deepening the cooperative relationship with this well-known automaker.
Borgwarner's SW130 motor adopts S-winding technology and features a continuously formed flat wire winding design, which can achieve the best performance and efficiency in a compact space. Compared with the hairpin motor, the compression design of the S-winding technology adopts radial coil insertion, which makes more efficient use of materials and reduces the number of soldering points by more than 90%. This not only enhances the scalability and flexibility in the design process, but also effectively reduces the cost and decreases the envelope size.
This high-power-density S-winding motor technology has been optimized for hybrid applications. The stator diameter of this motor is 130mm and the length is 65mm, aiming to maximize the peak torque while improving the noise performance.
